Hi team,

A lot has happened since we last wrote to you when we were second overall at the French Olympic Week in early May. We visited the White House with the US Olympic Team, experienced a minor setback to our campaign, and had a very successful fundraiser in Newport. Now we're back on the road again.

As we all know, injuries from accidents are unfortunately an uncontrollable part of life and sport. During the French Olympic Week, Maggie hyperextended her knee causing severe internal bone-bruising to top of her shin bone and an MCL sprain. While she luckily didn't have to undergo surgery, this stubborn knee injury kept us off the water as a team since our last event. But just like in racing when things don’t go according to plan, we adapt, pivot, and make the next best game plan.

We are finally back in action as a team and just arrived in Aarhus, Denmark where we will be training for the upcoming 49erFX European Championship. Read below to find out what each of us has been up to and what’s next on the schedule for the team.

Thank you for your support,
Steph and Maggie

We had a blast celebrating the Olympics with over 600 fellow winter and summer athletes at the Team USA Gala (we clean up ok!) and visiting the White House Visit in Washington, DC in May.

Steph spent 4 weeks in Newport, RI coaching the U.S. Nacra 17 squad and sailing in a variety of boats, including the Waszp, a fill in helm on the M32 Bliksem, IC37 practice racing, the NYYC Around the Island Race on Rima and the FX with US Sailing Team Teammate Erika Reineke.

For the past six weeks, Maggie spent many hours per day focusing on knee rehab and strength training. To retain strength while minimizing any impact on her knee, she used blood flow restriction therapy -- highly effective but not much fun. Additionally, Maggie swam to maintain cardio capacity and focused on a lot of upper body lifting. Thank you to her physical therapy team, at home and abroad, for getting her back on the boat safely!

Gwen and Austin Fragomen along with John and Elena Brim generously hosted a very successful fundraiser for our team at The Sailing Museum in Newport, RI. It was a special evening in a beautiful setting, and we are so grateful for all those who came out to cheer us on! Thank you to the Fragomens and Brims for hosting and all those who made contributions to our campaign!

Up Next: European Championship - Aarhus, Denmark - July 6-10

We are excited to finally get back on the water as a team in Aarhus, Denmark for our first training block since the injury and to race in the European Championship. While the lead up isn’t what we planned, we are looking forward to learning as much as we can about the new equipment before the Worlds in September, refining our starting skills and sharpening our first beat tactics.

We will be spending the second half of July training at the Team USA base in Marseille, France, which will be our first chance to get to know the venue on and off the water. Most importantly, this block of time is the same as when the Olympics will happen in 2024. It's a great opportunity to learn weather patterns. Thank you to the US Sailing Team for working hard to set up a home base at the Olympic venue!
(We know this photo isn't from France, but we love it and thought you might too!)
